Games I Played in 2015

These are the games I've played in 2015, on XBox One or the 360:

  • Resonance of fate
  • Sunset Overdrive
  • Darksiders
  • Rayman Legends
  • Gears of War Judgment
  • Final Fantasy Type 0
  • Massive Chalice
  • Thief
  • Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
  • Metro 2033
  • Metro Last Light
  • Tomb Raider
  • Walking Dead
  • Halo 5
  • Fallout 4

You can probably see that some are new, some old and some free with the Games With Gold program.

From these, my recommendations are:

  • Resonance of fate
  • Darksiders
  • Rayman Legends
  • Gears of War Judgment
  • Final Fantasy Type 0
  • Massive Chalice
  • Metro Last Light
  • Tomb Raider
  • Fallout 4
...and my favourite game played this year is: Tomb Raider. The best ones you may not have heard of are Resonance of Fate and Massive Chalice.

The worst of the year for me was: How To Survive: Storm Warning Edition. I didn't list it above because I didn't bother finishing it.

WORFU

Here is a new word game: WORFU.

The challenge of this game is to keep forming words before the board fills up. You'll need strategy to keep a good balance of vowels and consonants and to keep using up difficult letters.

The bigger the word, the higher the score and you double the word score for every blue tile used.

This game is mobile friendly.

Here is a new game for puzzle fans:

In Luups, the objective is to form loops using the puzzle pieces, which you can swipe around the board. The longer the loop, the better the score, but be careful not to run out of moves!

Liberate the Eight

This is my take on the 'number-crunching' genre of game.

It's called Liberate the Eight. The gameplay is simple: crush together blocks of the same number to double their value. Liberate the red block to level up. The game is over when you are out of moves. This game works on mobile.

Muncha Muncha

When I was a kid, one of my favorite toys was a handheld device called the Mini Munchman game. Very much like Pac Man, you guided Munchman through the maze, eating fruit and avoiding ghosts.

I've always wanted to create a game like that... so I have.

Muncha Muncha is a turn-based maze game, which sounds easy, but it takes place within quite a tight maze. You need to eat all the dots to finish the level. There are power-ups and side-doors.

You can play it on a mobile device: you should see a control panel pop up if you access it on a phone or tablet. On a keyboard device, you just use the arrow keys to move.

There are 30 levels in total.

Tutorial: Creating a Hangman Game in HTML5

One of the more popular Flash/AS3 tutorials was how to create a simple hangman game, so I've decided to do a version for HTML5. After all, with a little effort, anything we can do in Flash can be done in HTML5.

The tutorial is a good introduction to the various technologies used in HTML5: javascript, jquery, html, css and JSON. Sounds complicated, I know, but it's really not.

You can access the tutorial here:
